National Cupcake Day is December 15th!!!

Did you know that December 15th of each year is National Cupcake Day?  I did a little bit of research and it seems there are some discrepancies about where and when cupcakes originated, but there seem to be two theories regarding how these yummy treats got their name.  One theory is that cupcakes got their name because they were originally cooked in cups.  The second theory is that "cup cakes" were given their name because ingredients were measured out by the cup (a shift from weighing out ingredients).  Still another theory is that the cupcake and cup cake actually referred to two different things. Whichever the origin, we at Macaroni Kid certainly love a good cupcake!  

About a year and a half ago, 3 out of 5 members of our household began eating a gluten free diet.  I am happy to say that a gluten free diet is not the end of yummy treats!  Gluten free baking, however, can be a bit... daunting?  Whereas most people can go to the local bakery or supermarket to pick up some cupcakes for a special occasion, that is no longer so for my family.  I am incredibly thankful that we do have a place within our Macaroni Kid community where I can purchase gluten free baked goods (they really saved the day when I needed a gluten free donut for my daughter to bring on a field trip to the apple orchard).

The Little Mustard Seed Cafe and Shoppe in New Baltimore is an organic café that specializes in offering delicious food made from certified organic ingredients. They use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and have a full gluten-free menu.  They offer dairy-free and vegan options as well.  You can find their menu on their website, and they often list additional items available for the day on their facebook page.
